Artist's Notes:

In this piece, I wanted to capture how corporal punishment fails to teach children morality, and how to think independently about whats right and wrong. This method of discipline is represents a failure of our school system, and of many parents in Jamaican society to impart moral understanding, true understanding to children, a cycle that has been ongoing for decades. This results, I believe, in the "big stick" mentality, where children grow up doing the right thing only because of the threat of punishment, and not because of a genuine understanding of morality or any internal moral thought process. Some of us never grow out of that mental trap, doing whats right only when there are authorities to hold us accountable.
